Top Reasons PAN Card Signatures Get Rejected
1. Blue or Colored Ink
PAN scanners print in monochrome on the physical plastic PVC card. Blue or light-colored signatures cause rejection or faded, unreadable cards.
2. File Exceeding 20 KB
The NSDL upload script rejects files above 20.0 KB immediately during the document upload step with a strict validation error.
3. Mobile Shadows or Creases
Photos taken in dim lighting with shadow cast across the paper result in dark grey background patches instead of clean white.
How to Upload Your Signature to NSDL / UTIITSL
Sign on white paper: Use a black ballpoint pen on plain white A4 paper. Keep the signature within a 2 cm × 4.5 cm imaginary or lightly drawn box.
Crop and resize: Upload your photo into the widget above. The canvas automatically scales to 2×4.5 cm and keeps file weight between 10 KB and 20 KB.
Upload to portal: In the NSDL or UTIITSL application page, navigate to the "Upload Documents" tab and select the downloaded file.
PAN Card Signature Resizer FAQs
What are the official signature requirements for a new PAN card application?
According to NSDL (Protean) and UTIITSL guidelines for Form 49A: Dimensions must be 2 cm (height) × 4.5 cm (width), resolution at 200 DPI (approx. 354 × 157 pixels, or 400 × 200 px), file format in JPEG, and file size strictly less than 20 KB (recommended 10 KB to 20 KB). Black ink is mandatory.
Can I use blue ink for my PAN card signature?
No. The Income Tax Department and NSDL explicitly require the signature to be made with a black pen on plain white paper. Blue ink signatures are a primary cause of PAN card application rejection or delays.
How do I resize my signature to 2 cm × 4.5 cm and under 20 KB?
Simply upload your signature photo to the tool above. Our pre-configured preset automatically resizes the canvas to 2 cm × 4.5 cm at 200 DPI and compresses the JPEG file weight to between 10 KB and 20 KB with a crisp white background.
What happens if a minor applies for a PAN card?
For minor applicants (under 18 years of age), the parent or legal guardian who signs as the Representative Assessee must sign in the box. The minor does not sign.
